I’ve tried a few popular face creams available from YesStyle, namely SANA’s Soy Milk Cream, Innisfree’s Jeju Lava Seawater Cream, Secret Key’s Snow White Cream and LadyKin’s Vanpir Dark Repair Cream. Although some have added benefits such as whitening and anti-aging, my requirement for a face cream still lies in its ability to moisturize without irritating my dry and sensitive skin. I decided to try Kao’s Curel Intensive Moisture Cream because it’s a certified quasi-drug in Japan and claims to be suitable for my skin type.

Targeting dry, sensitive and mature skin, Curel is a skin care series from Kao formulated with ceramide and Eucalyptus, to respectively moisturize and soothe skin. The collection consists of Face Care, Body Care, Scalp & Hair Care, Sebum Care and Makeup Base. All Face Care and Body Care products are mildly acidic, hypoallergenic and free from fragrance, colorants and alcohol. Please refer to its official website to know more.

Here are the ingredients:
Allantoin (active ingredient), purified water, glycerin, hexadecyloxy PG hydroxyethyl hexadecanamide, cyclodimethicone, squalane, trisiloxane, dimethicone, POE-dimethicone copolymer, long chain dibasic acid bis 3-methoxypropylamide, eucalyptus extract, magnesium sulfate, BG, isostearyl glyceryl ether, succinic acid, sodium hydroxide solution, paraben

The ceramide in the cream serves three functions:
• It prevents the loss of your skin’s own ceramides.
• It promotes the production of ceramides by your skin.
• It offers additional ceramides.

The cream is also enriched with allantoin to protect skin against irritations.

The cream is smooth to the touch, weightless, easy to spread and easy to be absorbed. It’s the kind of cream I’ve always wanted for summer: non-oily, non-sticky, fragrance-free and sinks in without a trace. The recommended dosage is applying a dab of it (at least 2cm in diameter) every morning and night, which I did for a month. Although there were no visible improvements in the suppleness or smoothness of my complexion, there was no irritation either, and I’m glad it’s moisturizing enough as a summer cream. Most importantly, it helps soothe inflamed, dry, itchy and flaky areas when my skin broke out.

I recommend this cream to those with dry and acne-prone skin – especially dryness caused by strong acne treatments. It offers what you need: moisturization without the irritation. You don’t get a lot of “less is more” products these days, but this is definitely one.
