Kate Bosworth just launched her second capsule collection for TopShop in NYC last week, and here she is on her way to the big Soho TopShop shindig with brand new husband, director Michael Polish, and the ever-adorable Burberry Heart Leather and Haircalf Satchel. Before you start swooning uncontrollably over those heart-printed haircalf panels, we unfortunately couldn’t locate this bag anywhere, but we did find a haircalf Burberry tote with the same print for $1,857 at Matches Fashion.
While Kate Bosworth is an actress first, she’s really made a niche for herself in the fashion world with her biz endeavors: JewelMint, BeachMint, collections for TopShop, previous model/spokesperson roles for Coach and Vanessa Bruno and of course, her near-constant presence on fashion mag covers all over the known universe. The girl has both clout and the good taste to back it up. Also, “The Many Bags of Kate Bosworth” will not be a waste of your time, to put it lightly.

CAPACITY The Banner Tote is offered in four sizes (Baby–8-1/2″ W x 6-1/2″ H x 4-1/2″ D, Little–10-1/4″ W x 7-1/2″ H x 4-3/4″ D, Medium–13-1/2″ W x 9-3/4″ H x 6″ D, and Big–16′ W x 11″ H x 7″ D); shown here’s your “moderate,” which I feel is versatile: it’s big enough to be a functional work bag (though will not easily match a 12″ laptop because of the several pockets), although not so big that you might be deterred from using it as a weekend bag. I recently emptied the bag and found the following: a large wallet, a tiny cosmetics bag, sunglasses, a travel mug, a phone, a mobile charger, various wires, gloves, earmuffs, and keys. There was room for much more too. PRICE The medium-sized tote now retails for $1595 (Baby/$1150, Little/$1295, and Big/$1795), that is reasonable for a mid-range designer tote (in comparison to $2390 for the Prada Saffiano Medium Double Zip Top-Handle Bag, $2890 for the Saint Laurent Sac de Jour Small Satchel Bag, and $2435 for your own Givenchy Antigona Medium Leather Satchel Bag). Can you locate a similar-looking decent-quality bag for a tenth of the price? Easily. But shoppers admit the built-in designer markup, so that I will not include it in this discussion. The bag does sometimes go on sale in “seasonal” colours and may even be seen in some outlet stores from time to time, but I’d say it’s not likely you will chance upon a bag matching your colour and size preference available. Having said that, there’s no need to pay retail for this particular bag. Most department store gift card events (Neiman Marcus and Saks events come to mind) include these totes in the advertising, which means it’s possible to make at least $150-$200 in gift cards; alternatively, you could exploit the market rate, and order from retailers that price the tote in euros or pounds.
