The countdown to hot weather is on (I know! Where’d all the time go?), and naturally we’ve got summer wardrobe in our brains. With shirtdresses, breezy tops and pretty full skirts coming out in refreshing prints and textures, beating the heat and staying sophisticated are never contradictory. I’ve picked these looks as the basis for the new season. When my willpower to choose what to wear is no match to the sticky heat (which is very likely), they got my back.
1. Button-Down with Cinched Waist from CHICFOX
The classic and staple button-down is meant to be layered in creative ways. When “buckled up”, this shirt gives an instantly slimming peplum look. Why bother to tuck it in when you can wear it over skinnies for a deconstructed look?

As a long-time fan of stripes for essentially all occasions, this easy-breezy shirtdress has the potential to become my favorite staple. When unbuttoned ever so slightly with a statement bralette underneath and strappy heels, it makes for an effortless look for date nights.

With the weather heating up, sultry exposure will be the new norm. Nods to the Victorian era in ruffles and voluminous sleeves make this sheer lace top decidedly romantic, and a touch more dramatic than my average day shirt. I’d dress it up with a sleek midi for dinner, and also count on it as a go-to for lazy errands when paired with cutoffs.

The slipdress has made a strong comeback and will likely remain a staple this summer. If the full-on lingerie-by-day look is too much, this embellished camisole can still keep you right on trend. A summer wardrobe can’t be complete without bright and splashy tropical motifs. Saturated florals on this sundress exude getaway vibes, even when I’m trapped in the office. Always comfortable and flattering, thanks to the cinched waist, I trust it to be my stylish catch-all for the next few months.

A perforated, see-through overlay gives this streamlined and minimalist midi skirt a fresh, summery spin. Since head-to-toe white is ultimate sophistication and still on-trend, simply add a crisp white blouse to the breezy skirt. Top it off with posh footwear to complete a total boss look.

Keeping me covered and away from the sweaty feeling of jeans, an easy-breezy maxi dress is also on my must-buy list. This earthy-hued boho maxi dress adds a 70s flair to beach looks. No mixing and matching is necessary. Just add a pair of strappy sandals and I’m good to go.
8. Gingham Pencil Skirt from Hello sweety
It is great news the nostalgic gingham print is back in full force this year. The patterned skirt, detailed with a subtle slit at the rear, is one easy business-casual piece that allows for mix and match in the daily grind. Go full-on gingham (because why not!) and just throw on a white blazer to tone it down a bit.
9. Mesh Bathing Suit with Color-Blocking from chuu
Have you seen one of those style shoots lately, featuring practical and somehow extremely sexy one-piece swimsuits? Abundant mesh makes this two-tone style even sexier than tiny bikinis. It is easy to wear to the pool, and transition to beachside drinks with denim shorts.
10. Fringed Lace-up Heels from chuu
Less aggressive than the caged gladiator and more polished than strappy flats, these lace-up heels have a summery feel, making them an ace option for dressier occasions for those warm evenings. They also work with jeans for more casual affairs. Just make sure to pick a pair of cropped pants that allows the beautiful details to be seen.
