Google recently released its Fashion Trend Report 2016, a compilation based on US and UK users’ top searches from May 2014 to 2016. According to the report, here’s a summary of what to get and what to abandon for the upcoming season:

Uprising Items:
Sustained risers (safe bets): ripped jeans, biker pants

Seasonal risers (coming back stronger): kimono dress, romper, coatigan (slouchy knit coat), shirtdress, bomber jacket, boho dress

Rising stars (sudden rises): off-shoulder top, bodysuit, lace-up top, bralette, dashiki dress

Declining Items:
Drop-crotch pants, see-through clothes, acid-wash jeans, babydoll dress, asymmetrical skirt, waist trainer, maxi shirt, suede skirt

The Three Major Trends:

1. Military Chic
Led by David Beckham, Kayne West and Gigi Hadid, the military trend continues to take centerstage in the world of fashion. Key items include bomber jackets, ripped jeans and biker jeans, with the bomber jacket as the focus. Embroidered or floral bomber jackets in lightweight fabrics such as satin and silk, and in feminine colors such as pink, have become more popular than the typical camo or leather versions.

2. Free-Spirited
Thanks to Kendall Jenner, Olivia Palermo and Alexa Chung, the off-shoulder style has become the top search across silhouettes and occasions. Together with cold shoulders, boho and kimono dresses, the free-spirited look is becoming increasingly coveted in chambray or denim.

3. Ready-To-Go Outfits
Rompers (or playsuits in the UK) is the top trending item in this category, followed by jumpsuits and two-piece dresses. Popularized by celebrities such as Taylor Swift and Michelle Keegan, these all-in-one outfits are wanted in neutral colors such as olive and green, as well as in embellished or striped designs. There’s also a call for fancier materials such as sequins, satin, velvet and silk. The key is to look good while being fuss-free.
