Kerry Washington has been spotted toting a Purple Purse everywhere lately, and for good reason!
The Scandal star was recently named the 2014 Purple Purse Ambassador. The Allstate Foundation Purple Purse program is a ‘fashionable’ way to discuss domestic violence issues, and the corresponding financial abuse associated with it. All monies raised will support financial empowerment services to help domestic violence survivors rebuild their lives and that of their families.
Kerry Washington has always been an advocate for women’s issues, so her participation in this program is no surprise. The actress commented:
“The purse I designed for Allstate Foundation Purple Purse is a fashion statement that carries with it an important message. Purple is the color of domestic violence awareness and a woman’s purse is a strong symbol of where she carries her power. Financial wellbeing, a sense of ownership and a sense of self, reside in our purses. I am extremely proud to wear it and to know that it will increase awareness and create conversations around this important issue.”
500 purple purses will be produced and given to celebrities to promote the cause, and also to charities and survivors of domestic abuse. Additionally, anyone who donates $10 or more to the Purple Purse Challenge will win. Three winners will be picked every day. Learn more about the Purple Purse Challenge here.
