Mesh is a good friend of spring. Lightweight and sexy, it allows you to show some skin while still shielding your body. There are also many ways of wearing it. By combining it with other trends like spaghetti-strap tops, ruffled skirts and cutout jeans, you can go all feminine or head-to-toe athleisure. There’s even a variation of it that uses fishnet! So before going back to your typical sweetheart illusion neckline and tulle skirts, consider these new ways to rock the sheer style:
Mesh Top + Spaghetti-Strap Top
The spaghetti-strap top won’t be going away anytime soon, so why not double the sexiness with something as alluring, like a long-sleeved mock-neck mesh top? You can wear it either beneath or over a spaghetti-strap top. Just make sure one is fitted while the other is relaxed so it won’t be too billowy or figure-skimming. You can choose either a plain or patterned mesh top with allover vertical stripes or polka dots. Color-wise, black is the safest and certainly exudes a sexy, sophisticated mood, although beige and white also have a lot of followers. You can also go for ruffled or flared cuffs to up the Victorian vibe.
Mesh Underlay + V-Neck Shirt/ Knit Top
A fitted mesh underlay goes hand in hand with a loose-fit V-neck shirt or knit top. Together, they create a sheer triangle on the chest which draws attention and makes your bosom look fuller. Other necklines are also possible, such as the off-shoulder or scoopneck, but a mesh inset may work better than a separate underlay, which might bulge from the neckline. Nonetheless, a separate underlay allows for more versatile mixing and matching, and you can always wash it separately.
On the Sleeves
It’s all about the sleeves this spring! Apart from the very feminine ruffled and flared versions, you can also have them adorned with mesh or fishnet panels. Wear either a mesh-paneled pullover, or layer a fishnet top under a plain tee. It’s as simple as that!
Ruffled and Tiered Mesh Skirt
I mentioned that ruffles and tiers will take centerstage this spring, and now you only need to craft them in mesh to amplify the sexy allure. A sheer construction counteracts the heaviness of ruffles and tiers so you can look buoyant and balanced. It also creates more depth by exposing more layers.
Fishnet Tights + Cutout Jeans
This trend came out last fall during Seoul Fashion Week and is still going strong. This combination is not for everyone, but if you match it with a mesh top, it all becomes coordinated. Opt for mom jeans with a distressed square cutout at the knees.
Mesh Socks + Loafers/ Sneakers
Mesh socks can make your outfit look instantly edgy. Try matching them with wide leg pants and pointy loafers, or flaunt them with cropped jeans and sneakers. In fact, you can wear them with anything from pointy flats and sandals to oxfords and ankle boots. Just make sure your footwear is not crowded with embellishments which can overwhelm the look.
