Street Styles from Seoul Fashion Week S/S 2017

Fall is officially here! The commencement of the holiday season means lots of merrymaking and gatherings. It also means wearing more to keep yourself warm. If you’re still panicking about what to wear this season, why not learn from the fashionistas at Seoul Fashion Week? Held last month, the Fashion Week was a rendezvous of some of the most fashion-forward individuals around. This time, we glimpsed menswear-inspired outfits, glamorous fabrics and retro silhouettes. Here are some of the best trends from the street snaps:

1. Extra-Long Bell Sleeves
Winter is the best time to show off your sleeves. Although bell sleeves can make you feel a bit clumsy (unless you wish you keep your belongings inside the sleeves like ancient Chinese), they are doubtlessly stylish in their own way. Knuckle-skimming bell sleeves add drama to your look while protecting your hands from the elements. They’re also good for layering under a sweater. Match a bell-sleeve top with bell-bottoms for 70s vibe, or with a side-slit skirt to complement the flared cut.

2. Slit Hem
Want to get attention at a party? Slit dresses are foolproof! You can go from subtle to hip-high, in front, at the sides or at the back. Side slits are particularly popular not only because they show skin gracefully, but also because of the added freedom they give to your movement. Bared legs are the most alluring, like Bella Hadid’s sexy red V-neck bareback evening gown at this year’s Cannes Film Festival. But you can also try wearing your slit dress over pants for a funky spin. The trend also applies to tops, coats and pants. You can even try those wide leg pants with rolls of snap buttons, zippers or lace-ups at the sides.

3. Spaghetti-Strap Dress
You can find ways to wear a spaghetti-strap dress in my previous article. Think knit tops, pullovers and shirts to go under your dress, and perhaps a more muted palette to channel the wintry mood. Alternatively, opt for jumper dresses or overalls and leave one shoulder strap draping over your arm. I still wonder how people invented this style.

4. Metallic Pleated Skirt
Perfect for parties, an accordion-pleat midi skirt is an essential this season. The elasticized waist and forgiving silhouette make it suitable for all body shapes. Opt for metallic tones and a velvet fabrication to look glamorous, or chiffon and mesh to keep it elegant.

5. Velvet
I’ve been hearing a lot about velvet being THE material this winter though the fad has yet to be proven. Velvet is perfect for creating an opulent feel, but it isn’t an easy fabric: It’s too shiny and slinky, not to mention some colors can make you look old. To prevent this from happening, look for colors like turquoise, pink, baby blue or mustard yellow. Velour is a great alternative if you want to look sporty. (Yes, that’s the material used in Juicy Couture’s famous jumpsuits.)

6. Fish-Net Tights
This trend can be hard to pull off – it can look cheesy, especially when worn with punk-rock accessories. Nonetheless, the style looks great with patent leather pieces. For a change, pair your tights with unexpected menswear-inspired items like bomber jackets and cutout denims, or switch things up with fish-net socks instead.

7. Cutout Denims
Denims are all the rage now as you can see from Google’s fashion trends 2016 and Pantone’s Top 10 Spring 2017 Colors. Make your average denim stand out with additions (appliques and fringes) or subtractions (cutouts and distressed detailing).

8. Embroidered Bomber Jacket
This trend doesn’t really need further elaboration since it’s been here for a while, but is still staying strong. Match a silky embroidered bomber jacket with a knife-pleat plaid skirt to look Christmassy.
