If I were to nominate the most essential beauty ingredients of 2016, snail filtrate and bee venom would be among my list of nominees. Be it in a mask, essence or lotion, everything seems to become instantly more luxurious once you add those two ingredients. That, together with the positive reviews from YesStyle customers, accounts for my interest in Benton‘s Snail Bee High Content Essence.

If you wish to know more about the nature and benefits of snail slime and bee venom, please refer to my and my colleague May’s previous articles. In short, both ingredients are celebrated for their firming qualities. But that’s not enough! To make it literally “high content,” this essence is also packed with other well-known goodies:

Snail filtrate: Naturally boosts skin’s collagen level and elasticity; repairs damage and removes dead skin cells; reduces wrinkles, brightens and moisturizes.
Bee venom: Boosts skin’s collagen level and elasticity; reduces and prevents signs of aging, including wrinkles and sagging; lifts and moisturizes.
EGF: Increases skin’s collagen level and cell regeneration.
Aloe vera extract: Moisturizes and repairs damaged skin; reduces wrinkles; keeps skin plump, soft and luminous.

If you have sensitive skin like I do, be assured that all of Benton’s products are cruelty-free, made without mineral oils, steroids, colorings, preservative and alcohols, and are suitable for all skin types. However, as it says in the warning, stop using the product immediately if you experience irritations. And of course, a patch test is a must!

You can find the ingredient list and instructions easily on its humble packaging. Unfortunately, the words aren’t very legible. I’ve already maximized the photo size here so you can have a clearer look.

The essence comes in an opaque pump bottle. You might think that snail slime essence should be sticky and slimy but this essence is anything but! To my delight, it lacks any detectable smell or color. Despite having a gel texture, the essence is amazingly fast-absorbing and feels just like water. I guess it can be quite useful in summertime when I don’t want my skin care to be too thick and sticky.

Here’s my daily 2 pumps.

I’ve been applying 2 pumps of this essence every night for 1 month, and I’m very pleased with the results. It certainly helps to reduce wrinkles, but I’m happier to find out that my pores and blemishes are diminished. It makes my skin smoother and less prone to acne. What more can you ask from an essence that’s only US$16.5 per 60ml?

Oh yes, I do have one small issue: The essence just isn’t moisturizing enough. It’s now winter in Hong Kong and my dry skin requires an additional moisturizer. But handling that’s a piece of cake as long as I can get acne-free skin!
