Meet Our Latest Bag Crush: The Burberry Satchel in Indigo Leather

This bag screams classic in the coolest possible way

It’s no secret that Burberry makes some of the best classic bags around. While other designers are constantly trying to push their limits and reinvent the wheel, Burberry tends to stick to its roots, offering classic shapes in quality materials with impeccable craftsmanship. Burberry’s The Satchel in Leather is no different.

Artisanally crafted in Italy, this structured satchel is made of soft, supple leather with hand-stitched details. I love the contrasting calf leather strap, which is adjustable. This bag can be sized to fit everyone—short or tall! The classic shape is what really drew me in. I love the clean lines and subtle detailing. The buckled closure is pretty easy to get in and out of, and it’s my absolute favorite part of the bag. When I think Burberry, this is exactly the type of bag that comes to mind—classic and chic, with clean lines and simple details. The leather soaks up the color so well, and I am just obsessed with The Satchel in navy—or indigo, as it’s called on Burberry’s website. Navy is the perfect way to wear color while still having a bag that can work as a neutral.

The bag comes with a dust bag which has a wonderful draw string closure which seem to be a popular in the fashion world, over the flap closures. Finally in regards the receipt and proof of purchase in a cute tan envelope embossed again with the golden Burberry logo. Always safely keep it away and keep it preciously you never know when you may need it.To women all over the world, the Burberry name conjures images of London and rain; trench coats in crimson, navy and red; and umbrellas and scarves lined at the home’s signature check. But purses? That’s a class Burberry is less reputed for – and with the initiation of the DK88 bag this spring, something which the 161-year-old British fashion house has set about changing. In design, the DK88 is seductively easy – that the spare canvas worked to a gorgeous shape, much like its renowned trench coats. (In fact, the tote is called after the house code for Burberry’s honey-coloured cotton gabardine.) Rendered in this season’s must-have silhouette – the top-handle tote – it comes in medium and massive sizes, and bears a distinctive, oversize lock. The logo is discreet. The plan is amazingly pragmatic: An optional shoulder strap allows for hands-free motion, and even the smallest version is capacious enough to match a Smythson diary, keys, iPhone and a book. The DK88 made its first look at Burberry’s London Fashion Week show in February as a member of a series inspired by the sculptural forms of this British sculptor Henry Moore.

When you open the satchel, there is a small outside pocket, which fit my iPhone (it wouldn’t fit the plus size, though). Inside, I fit my sunglasses in their cloth pouch, a small zip-around wallet, a chapstick and a lipstick. There is one interior slit pocket, which is perfect for a MetroCard or credit cards with an ID, if you’re the type to skip a wallet with smaller bags. While this bag is small, it’s mighty stylish, which makes it a great day bag for the girl who doesn’t carry much. Overall, the dimensions of The Satchel are 6.9″ x 2.4″ x 5.7″, which retails for $1,395 via Burberry.
