Usually, Valentino will release a lookbook for its pre-fall and resort collections. But since Maria Grazia Chiuri left for Dior and her former partner, Pierpaolo Piccioli, assumed full creative control, how the brand does things has shifted slightly. On Wednesday, Piccioli put on Valentino’s Pre-Fall 2017 show at New York’s Beekman Hotel, and the bags on the runway were worthy of the occasion.
Although these side-shot detail photos aren’t available from the show (or at least we couldn’t find them), thankfully the front-on runway shots give a pretty decent view of some of the bags in the collection. The big story is the debut of a large satchel that will come in tons of colors, leathers and embellishments, including patterned fur and glossy crocodile. That fills a gap in Valentino’s lineup that none of the previous Rockstud bags ever quite did: a roomy, polished, structured day bag.
Check out all the versions of that bag, as well as the others from the runway, below.
